Fave TV Couples Part 2 - More Than Friends

And then there are the non-traditional couples...pairs that share a very special bond all of their own.

Violet and Cooper - Private Practice
BFF's through and through. Violet and Cooper are the cutest besties...they call each other a LOT, are always hanging out, going places like Costa Rica, but when it comes down to it they are close as friends can get.
Their relationship has taken a beating, with their significant others demanding (totally deserved) more time spent with them. -But I bet Charlotte would never comb lice out of Cooper's hair...

Will & Grace - Will & Grace
Gay guy, straight girl....makes for a wonderful friendship. Will & Grace know each other so well, they kick butt at game night, and can't date people the other person doesn't approve of. Over the years they dealt with a few wedges that came between them, and in the end they spent a few years apart, but it all worked out eventually.
Gotta give a special shout out to Jack and Karen who rocked my world and had a very weird relationship...but where would they be without Will & Grace?!

Meredith and Christina - Grey's Anatomy
Sometimes they remind me of my friendships with certain people...but I think we have better boundaries!
Poor Derek and Owen are stuck with it forever. I may not love the couples on Grey's, but there is something wonderful about Meredith and Christina's ET/Elliot relationship. They talk everything through, sleep in each other's beds, and sometimes put the needs of each other before their own partners, but they're Meredith and Christina, you can't break that bond! They are each other's "Person".

Jack and Jen - Dawson's Creek
Jack and Jen are a lot like Will & Grace, but younger...and less...gay. I always loved the bond between Jack and Jen...Okay so they're not my fave couple in the world, but they had some good times. They helped each other out of their loner shells. Who knows if it wasn't for each other, they never would have had a relationship or gone anywhere.
When Jen died Jack raised her daughter - who better.

LOST...and others

So I told you it would happen, and it finally did, I'm hooked again. Ep 4 definately had me going OOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! And like other's said would happen, I am starting to get sad at the beginning and the end of each ep, cause it's getting closer to the end.
-Wow I just thought about it and its been a long time since an long-running show (more than 2 seasons) of mine has ended. Not counting DVD shows ofcourse. The last one was ER last year...which has similarities to LOST in that it feels like time to end it, and it has been coming, however, unlike ER, LOST has planed out the storyline for year now! So excited to see how it all ends, but yet dredding it like hell!

In other news, I finished season 11 of ER. Which marks the turning point in ER, with Carter being the last original (never leaving) character to leave. I imagine I would have been really sad and emotional the first time I watched his last ep...and I was pretty emotional this time too. I miss Carter already!
However season 11 really lost some big characters, and never really replaced them. They kicked off Corday...then they lost Chen, and then Carter....huh funny, I never noticed they were the 'C' characters! They never really replaced the lost women on that show, and after Carter left there weren't many REALLY GOOD characters anyways...sad.
The problem now is that I don't have season 12 on dvd, and I'm fighting myself from going back and watching season 15 all over again! I'm weak!

Episode 14 of The Good Wife is my fave so far...mainly because Cary got high! But it made for great scenes...and the rest of the story was actually really interesting. I'm so bummed that I have to wait till March for new eps. Damm Olympics are really messing up the TV schedule!
Also this is problematic because a lot of new shows are starting in March, or are coming back in March, so there will be more shows to fit into my download schedule/limit. But it'll all work out.

I'm caught up on Cougar Town. I don't care what people think, I still like it a lot.
I'm slowly catching up on Parks and Recreation. I just watched Megan Mullally's ep...which was odd seeing as I'm watching a lot of Will & Grace these days. I also can't believe I keep forgetting she was even in that show. It keeps happening to me. Oh well. I've seen it now...I had to redownload it cause the first one was a dud file :( Boo. So that's 8 eps of s2 down, so not too bad.

I think that's all for now....I don't have the energy to get into Brothers & Sisters or Greys or PP right now...Maybe I'll save that for the weekend.

A New Year, A New Kind of Crazy!

So my intention, post Christmas, was to watch 30Rock and finish off season  3 of Grey's Anatomy. I have finished off 30Rock. However I have a few discs left of Grey's. -Which is okay cause I just ordered seasons 4 and 5 from Amazon, so I'll be done by the time they get here.

Now the part that is crazy, is that after watching all 3 Might Ducks movies in the last week, my sister decided she wanted to watch Dawson's Creek. I thought she was kidding! lol. I'd been considering going back and re-watching a few times in the last 2 years, but never got to it. So I thought we'd watch the first ep, and she'd be weirded out, A) cause its old, and B) cause its not like any other teen show....especially the ones on TV these days.
But she kept asking to watch more. So I gave it a few more eps, and somehow it has managed to keep her interest right into halfway of season 2. I'm enjoying watching it, while not paying full attention some of the time.
Its hard for me to watch and keep my mouth shut about some of the bigger events. I don't want to give her spoilers, cause I'm interested to see how she feels in the end RE: Joey choosing between Pacey and Dawson. I think part of me is more excited to see her reactions, than the actual bits themselves...which makes sense cause I've seen all the eps at least 3 times each.

In other TV news, our computer died over the weekend, meaning I haven't been able to download anything. Which totally sucks! I do have a couple of eps sitting on the laptop that I can watch, but I'm just not feeling motivated! Plus my laptop currently lives on the computer desk in the kitchen, connected to the net, so I am not going absolutely CRAZY!
Before it died, I had downloaded the first 2 episodes of Parks and Recreation, which I'm enjoying so far. I've also watched the first episode of Modern Family. It's okay. I'm not sure if I like it or not yet. I'll give it a few more eps, its a strage sort of show in terms of format...or something.

I'm sure I'll be branching out soon. Now that I'm done with 30Rock, I'll be able to start one of the many other shows waiting in the wings...aka my dvd shelf :P
Plus JB has Will & Grace really cheap, so I might have to buy up the last 3 seasons. Maybe ER, 2 seasons of that shouldn't take too long.....I hope :P

It's Christmas Time!

It's that time of year again, when I start pulling out the festive episodes of my favourite TV shows.
I watched Studio 60 back in October or something, so that might have been the first...not counting the Ally McBeal christmas eps. I also caught the Grey's Anatomy Christmas ep a few weeks ago, in my re-viewing of the first 3 seasons.

In the more recent days, I have watched the season 4 Christmas episode of Will and Grace. I watched the season 1 Christmas ep of Friends today, and one of the season 1 Christmas eps from ER.

Other than ER, Friends and The West Wing, there are not that many Christmas eps from my shows. I will skip Gilmore Girls this year, because I am only up to season 5...and I don't need to watch season 1 again, and don't want to skip ahead to season 7 either.

I will spend the rest of my time, watching Christmas movies....or movies that are set around Christmas, and working my way through Grey's and GG.

Maybe after Christmas I can get to that stack of new DVDs that I got for my birthday.
Wish me luck!

"Reality Has Absolutely No Place in Our World!" -Lorelai Gilmore

So...I'm putting it out there...I do not live in reality.

I prefer living in a world where...
...Studio 60 never ends, just keeps going on and on...with Matt and Harriet staying together
...Josh and Donna really DO live happily ever after, getting married and all....
...Monica, Chandler, and the Gang still hang out and get up to their antics
...Luke and Lorelai stay together and Rory doesn't stay away too long
...County ER is still fixing up people and doing us proud
...Vaughn and Sydney are living happily with the kids...and maybe doing the occasional spy gig
...Jordan and Woody figure it out!
...Delinda actually has her baby.....
...Jack and Karen, Will and Grace still drive each other crazy (in the best possible way)
...Joey and Pacey stick together, and Dawson finally gets a grip!

(There might be more I'm forgetting.....but I'll ignore that for now)

I have lost more shows in the last few years than I've watched shows total in the last few years...which is worrying. I am enjoying picking up some older shows...I mean I knew what I was getting into with The West Wing...but I never in a million years knew I'd love it that much, that I'd miss not having new eps to watch!
But I think Studio 60 is the worst...not to mention poor Delinda stuck in labor-limbo!

Reality TV aint for me! No way, no how!

Current TV Watchage

So...I'm halfway through season 6 of The West Wing already...makes me very sad. lol. But I am working on making my very own Josh/Donna fanvid...could be interesting.

I finished Scrubs. I really liked the way it ended.
I finished season 4 of Will and Grace...which is all I have...for now.

I've started Freaks and Geeks. And there are a few others that I can borrow from Ness after that...

In terms of downloaded shows...I'm enjoying new Showtime show Nurse Jackie. -A little weird, but entertaining.
I'm loving In Plain Sight....Course once we get through season 2 we'll be screwed!
I'm still behind on Brotherhood, and NCIS. I've got 2 more eps of NCIS left to download...I just can't be bothered..I think I'm losing interest in that show.

Still gotta catch up on Mad Men too...I haven't watched season 2 yet and season 3 is starting. oops. Maybe I can track that down soon.

Oh well...before I know it, september and the Emmy's will be here. Maybe Kristin will win this year. :)

What Happened to The TV Viewers?

Did they all suddenly get dumber, and stupid - unable to appreciate good writing, directing, performance and overall creativity???? It feels like it. Maybe they just became jaded.

Over the last few years, ratings keep dropping for new shows. People are just not tuning in for the good stuff. There could be a billion different reasons why shows are not lasting anymore.

I grew up on shows that were institutions. They lasted at least 3 seasons and often went to 5 or more. So what has changed? Is it the audience? The content? Or are the networks just not giving things a go anymore?

I argue it's a bit of all three.

Firstly, I think the popularity of the internet gave people something else to do. It got people away from their televisions. I also think that the introduction and excess of reality programs has really dumbed down the audience. Additionally, those shows are cheaper to make and easier to sell.

There are very very few shows begun after 2002 that really were good! There are always exceptions and we have seen them. In the 20th century somehow there were more shows being given a chance by networks. Nowdays its all about ratings. If something does not rate high straight off the bat, it is doomed. If they had thought that way in the old days, The Brady Bunch and many other iconic shows would never have made it! -Just something to think about.

I think that nowadays the audiences EXPECT new shows to not last. So they are not tuning in in the first place! They would rather wait till it has a good shot, and catch up by watching online or dvd. I find even I think that way. I know what is coming, I know who is in it and sometimes I really really like it (eg. Pushing Daisies, Better Off Ted), and want it to do well, but sometimes even though I want to....I just automatically expect that anything new will not last. (eg. Cupid)

Even with TIVO, people are still not watching the new stuff.
DVD's I think are also to blame. Now people can watch their old faves over and over and over again without having to care about the new stuff that isn't going to last more than a season. Not that there is anything wrong with watching old stuff.....I'm all for it. -You've seen my dvd collection and read my ranting about The West Wing. But its a factor nonetheless.

It really makes me worry about the future of tv. A lot of the BIG shows (in my lifetime) ended from 2004-2006. Today's big shows started around that time...but they are just not quite at the same standard of excellence and consistancy of quality that the old ones were. -Seriously, you cannot argue that season 5 of Grey's Anatomy is as good as season 5 of Friends. (or for a better example the first 12 seasons of ER vs. the last few)
I wonder what will happen when these big shows we have now call it quits. What will the landscape of American television look like when Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, Brothers and Sisters, Heroes, LOST etc. end. I doubt Mad Men will go for more than a few more seasons. Maybe by that time we will be ready to accept some of the old quality back again. Maybe by then we will see some more top shelf stuff make it past season 1, by the likes of J.J Abrams, Aaron Sorkin, Amy Sherman-Palladino, John Wells, the creators of Friends, Will and Grace, and other sitcoms, and any one of other greats I'm sure I've forgotton.

Stay tuned for my next rant.....on the death of the Sitcom!
