Nothing Special

Written during the week, but was unable to post it till now due to super slow internet connection.

Harry's Law Finale: This show never really made me fall in love with it. I like it, enough. The problem is none of the main characters are overly likeable…and not a single one that I’m connected to. None of the cast are overly interesting either. I think it definitely got better in the last few eps of the season, but I don’t know if I want to keep watching it if it gets picked up for a second season. Maybe if there is nothing else to watch.
However I was glad that Adam and that girl got together, but it was odd to have Paul McCrane from ER singing...

The Good Wife is still great. Its not an overly fun show, but I really like it. Its not the kind I’d go back and watch a lot, or probably even buy the dvds, but I love it. I find myself loving all the Eli Gold stuff…I don’t care about Peter and the election, but Eli is fun. Not sure what Cary is up to, he’s all over the place. Kalinda is in hot water, and that’s an interesting spin. Alicia isn’t my fave character, but I like her when she’s working on case. They’ve had some good cases this season. It will be interesting to see how they end the season.

This week I haven’t been able to watch a single thing new…or even at all really. Our internet usage is up, so I can’t download anything new…and I’m DYING! I never realized how much I NEEDED to watch Parenthood. Brothers & Sisters I’m used to waiting for, but I’m trying in vain to get that this week…3 days and its only 50%...I’ll leave it going tomorrow, and maybe it will be done by Friday. I was going to spend the week re-watching stuff off my external hard drive…but that seems to have died on me too! I managed to get the first 4 eps of Raising Hope off it, before I stopped working properly..so at least I had those to watch.

I guess at least I’ll have plenty to watch over the weekend, with Parenthood, Nurse Jackie, United States of Tara, P-Rex, Community, 30 Rock, Modern Family, and new The Good Wife I guess… At least that’s something to look forward to! But till then I’m kinda in hell. I can barely check twitter…and download the great pics that are coming from the final filming days of season 4 on the PPP!

Slim Pickings

So blame it on my sucky internet, but I had hardly anything to watch last week. I had Off The Map which I got off Ness on Monday, I totally love that show now! I got last weeks ep of her last night too. It sucks that they are getting rid of Ryan, she finally got interesting. I like Mina though, and I like Lily more too. Poor Mina....she didn't deserve to get fired.

Mr Sunshine this week wasn't that great, I watched it Friday night. It was okay, but not really GOOD. Overall that show really isn't great. Its a pity, it just makes me miss Studio 60 more and more.
Crystal's speech at the funeral was great though. Allison Janney rarely fails to make me laugh!

Parenthood was FINALLY back last week too! But I felt bad that I hadn't been missing it more, and couldn't remember when it was last on. But it was so good! Although I did spend the whole thing thinking how sick Lauren Graham sounded. Poor thing. Its cool that she's getting somewhere with her play. But poor Julia and Joel. I did find it funny how they handled talking about 'fish' around Sydney. Poor Amber...but she can go to community college and move up later...if she doesn't go off the rails...

I also had 2 eps of Harry's Law to watch. That show is not great at all...its watchable...but barely. The problem is the main characters - none of them are overly likable...not a single one is a GREAT character. I can't really relate to any of them...maybe that's the problem. The cases are not that interesting either. It finishes up this week, luckily.

I'll comment on the Grey's musical and PPP later...I'm still trying to decide what I think about the Grey's music event. It was....strange.

A Sense of Accomplishment

So Friday night I had the whole place to myself which was awesome! The house is so peaceful when its empty. It was the prime environment for TV viewing. I managed to finish off Damages season 2. I was surprised by the ending, but also can understand how season 2 didn't have quite the same sparkle that season 1 had. The whole environmental case/issues were not quite as flashy or interesting as murder and attempted murder. But I did like season 2. Once I started watching, I was very keen to watch more. Its very addictive. They really know how to end an ep on a cliffhanger, or giving you a tiny piece of the puzzle. The problem is that it doesn't have great re-watchability. But that's okay. I don't plan on re-watching it much. I am interested to see what the commentaries are like that are included on the season 2 DVD. Pity how the cast commentaries I am dying for, don't exist, but shows that I don't really care about manage to get them. -Not fair!

Anyways, now I guess I'll have to find time to start season 3 at some point. I'll wait a while though, too many other things in the lineup.

Once I was finished Damages, I was able to start season 12 of ER, which I bought after Christmas, and have been holding onto. Season 12 is the last season I watched on regular tv. Mid season 12 channel 9 stopped showing the eps, and I downloaded the rest, from then on. Its a little weird getting my head back into that period, having watched really old eps in my Christmas eps of tv viewing. -I miss Carter!
But man was it a tough day for kids with all the eps I watched today - little kidnapped girl getting rescued only to die of a gunshot wound, kids with aids, and little girls getting shot on christmas eve. SAD!
I was SO excited to get up to the ep with the baby chimp though. Its quite entertaining.
And I'm getting up to John Stamos' eps which is gonna mess with my head this week cause he's in Glee. Oh well.  I've got season 13 to watch after that, and then more stuff from Amazon will arrive. -So I am never without tv to watch.

In current TV news, Off The Map is still staying good. Maybe its because the stories/characters etc are actually getting better, but maybe I'm liking it better, because now I am getting to know the characters and letting them grow on me. But I'm really mad because I heard Rachelle Lefevre got a new pilot for next season, meaning she probably won't be sticking around. Which sucks cause I was actually liking her character Ryan the most! They've also set it up so she probably won't be able to come back. Damm.
Oh well. I'll live. The other characters are becoming less annoying.

I liked Harry's Law better last week, this week started off good, but by 20/30 minutes in I was pretty bored. Its a pity, its got potential, but doesn't really do a lot. Plus they seem to be going back and forth between trying to be quirky and trying to be a serious law show with a bit of humor. They need to find a better middle ground.

Even less on tv this week than last. Which sucks, but at least some shows will be back next week. And Glee is back this week, so that's something. Nothing is sitting on a cliffhanger or anything which is good. I HATE that! I'll probably catch up on a few things I have sitting in my tv folder that I haven't been rushing into watching. That or I'll race through ER. I do love ER.

Parenthood and Raising Hope

Its a quiet week for tv. Today there was no new Glee, but there was Parenthood, Raising Hope, and The Good Wife. My internet was playing up, so while I was waiting for new stuff I watched last week's ep of Harry's Law.
I actually really enjoyed the ep. Its definitely not the most interesting show, but I found that ep to be less boring than others. I like that chick Jordana Spiro plays. I also liked the gang storyline. But Brittany Snow's character Jenna is becoming pointless and stupid! While I did laugh at her making name tags for the bangers, she doesn't do much of anything.

Parenthood was really good this week. It was cute. I actually "yay"-ed out loud when Jason Ritter popped up. I was so excited to have him back, even if only for 1 ep. Everyone's writing books...its cool that Sarah's is better as a play!
I loved all the Kristina, Adam and Max stuff. It was cool to see Kristina and Adam deal with telling Max he has Aspergers. Good acting all over this ep!
It was nice to have some Julia and Joel. Not to mention a few minutes of Sydney and Jabbar!
Stupid Crosby for starting a fight with the boat people! Wish I cared more about the Crosby and Jasmine stuff.
Also, not sure what to make of costume choices in this ep. Sarah's clothes were a little....anyways....but Julia looked hot in her dress!'
Oh and on the cast attendance checklist for this week, we were missing - Drew, Amber, and Haddie. Which isn't bad. At least the grown-ups showed up.

Raising Hope was good, not great. I dunno if the show is losing the spark it had the earlier eps, or that it was more fun to watch a few eps at once...but that said, I am still loving it. Bert cracks me up. I love Sabrina. Hope is adorable! Its quirky and makes me laugh. Definitely not quiting this one yet.

I'll watch The Good Wife tomorrow, and whatever else is on, or around.

Weekend TV - The Good and The Bad

The weekend is where I catch up on all those shows that air on a Thursday night in the US.

Starting with Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice, which I watched last night....

Grey's was a whole ep set within an actual hour...it was interesting. Having it set so the whole ep was following Meredith around (except for a few parts with Teddy and her guys...) was different. But the stories sorta made me want to pull my hair out for realisticness....but anyways, I don't really expect that from Grey's.
Don't care about Bailey and her nurse-man. Interesting things growing between Lexie and Avery, and Alex and blondie....not really caring about those either. I'm glad that they are still talking about Mer and Der having their baby, but did it really have to be so hard for them? - Also Meredith's telling Christina not to accept the Godmother role for Callie's baby...when did Christina and kids become something you'd use in the same sentence?! I did like perky Meredith...she's just silly. The future ficticious baby makes for really cute scenes...I can't believe after all these years that no one locks the on call room door, or knocks before entering it! crazy people!

I was kinda expecting more people to die and for her be kinda responsible for it....but it worked out awfully well. Only 1 guy died. Yay. But her talking to that guy's kid on the phone was sad.
Also definite potential for the Adele story...it will be interesting to see where that goes.

Private Practice has stolen the dark and twisty title from Grey's. Poor Addison...herefor know as Addizombie (thanks to Ness for coming up with that!). It made sense for Addison to be keeping her mother's cause of death a secret...from other people...I understand that. It was really creepy how stepford she became. The Addizombie was dark and twisty, and really weird - but in a good way I guess. The whole situation was really strange, a PPP fieldtrip....I understand Naomi, Sam and Amelia coming and being part of everything - they knew Bizzy...I can understand that Charlotte, Cooper and Pete (who I don't think was that keen anyways...) wanted to be there for the Addizombie. But it was weird, and not just because these people don't belong in wintry climates in winter! It was kinda funny to see them stuck in the Montgomery mansion, under Archer's orders...If I was them I'd be running for the emotional warmth of a hotel too!
Poor Pete was pretty pointless in the whole thing...probably didn't NEED to be there, and said hardly anything all ep...although it was totally worth it just to hear him call Amelia "ridiculous".
Having Violet back was really not as fun as it should have been...she was suddenly back with not a single ref to when she got back, and more than a few days could have passed since the last ep. But most annoyingly, was that it was all Violet and Sheldon alone in LA, with a just about equally depressing story.
I'm hoping that things start to get lighter in rest of the season. I want some fun back for my OWGers.
---Charlotte King Engagement Ring Watch has had a development- she had her ring back in this ep....which was filmed this year...so I'm guessing....they just forgot about it in those last few eps they filmed last year? Odd....

Today I watched Community, Parks and Recreation, and also last weeks ep of Harry's Law.
Community was kinda lame...the whole mock mockumentary was a weird look for the show. The story of Pearce being in hospital and messing with everyone by bequeathing things to them was strange and annoying. I tend to almost always hate Pearce stories. My fave part was Britta and Jeff acting out how reuniting with Jeff's father would go.

P-Rex was annoying this week. The problem with that show is sometimes its a great ep, and then I find anything after that really lacking. This week involved April making Andy do her 'chores' which was sweet and entertaining. The whole Anne and Chris thing is annoying. Also Leslie and Ben were not interesting me at all this week. I makes the whole show a lot less fun, when even Amy Poehler's character is not getting my interest. Hopefully since the last few eps have not been of great substance...that hopefully one is bound to pop up soon.

Harry's Law is slowly pulling me in. It's not the best show on tv, but David E Kelley has managed to create a show that matches up to his old standards. I don't really LOVE any of the characters, but they're all growing on me. I'm all caught up now which is nice. I'll stick with it...its not like I'm wishing I was doing other stuff while I'm watching it, so that's a good sign.

In other news...quite a few of my people/shows are nominated for a Prism award, which is an award for media which deals with substance abuse and mental health issues. Tough competition....but really the whole of Parenthood against a few eps of other things....not fair.

Drama Series Multi-Episode Storyline – Mental Health:

* Grey’s Anatomy – “With You I’m Born Again”/”Shock to the System”/”Superfreak”
* Parenthood: Seasons 1 and 2
* Private Practice – “Did You Hear What Happened to Charlotte King?”/”What Happens Next”/”Can’t Find My Way Back Home”
* Sons of Anarchy – “Oiled”/”Caregiver”/”Home”

Female Performance in a Drama Series Multi-Episode Storyline:

* Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie
* Sandra Oh, Grey’s Anatomy
* Monica Potter, Parenthood
* Katey Sagal, Sons of Anarchy
* KaDee Strickland, Private Practice

Don't Ever Leave Me Again!

So last week there was pretty much no new tv, other than the thursday night shows, and the mid season shows.
P-Rex was great. Hilarious even....but Rob Lowe's character is still annoying. 30 Rock wasn't bad either. -Loving that I am finally caught up on that now...although more pressure to keep up.
Community was good at first but got weird halfway through. Still not sure about Off The Map...its too 'over the top' in terms of cases, its always something super dramatic...and that music is starting to bug me too - its SO depressing. None of the characters are that thrilling either...its just lacking something.
Harry's Law oddly enough is actually still kinda good. Its a little quirky...I've missed that -David E Kelly is back on the job.

A few shows are back this week, the rest come back next week.
Parenthood was good in bits and pieces tonight....Adam getting stoned was AWESOME! I love it when those guys dance! -Fave line "My crotch is vibrating" when Adam's phone rang... Peter Krause rocks my socks. He's hilarious! He's so much more fun in comedys than the serious serious drama that was Six Feet Under (as awesome a show it was...).
-Haddie is such a pain in the neck though, poor Jabbar, Sydney and Drew got no screen time!

The Good Wife was back this week too, but I'll get that later, I'm saving room for other things for now.

Super excited for the PPP to be back finally! - Its been extra annoying cause it was supposed to be on a few weeks ago, but bumped for a repeat of the pilot of Off The Map. So I've been looking forward to this ep for a LONG time.
It will be good to have Grey's back too....but I'm not nearly half as excited for that show as I used to be.

In DVD news...I finished season 2 of Private Practice on Friday morning, having only the finale left. I watched the special features friday night. I remembered so much of the 2nd half of the season, but its weird how little I remembered from the first half. At least the finale wasn't nearly as stressfull this time around. I remember tears flowing, and jumping around, not being able to sit still when Katie attacked Violet.
I must say I love the good Charlotte/Violet scenes in season 2. (and 3 too). They are always fun. I hope we get some more in the future. They really have no choice but to be friends...or its gonna be a world of trouble for Coop!

I've also watched the Brothers & Sisters commentaries from season 2, and will get to the season 3 ones soon.
I also am finally getting back to Damages season 1. Its less fun the 2nd time around, knowing what happens and all, but I want to rewatch it before season 2. -Plus its fun to pick out locations I know in New York.
When I'm done with that I'll start ER, or Grey's...depending on what I feel like. It might be a little too much John Stamos, between Full House, Glee and ER...hmm.

When Did Saturday Become TV day?!

Why are there SO many shows on on a Thursday night in the US? Between me and Ness we are overloaded come Friday evenings.

The last 2 weeks Ness and I have been watching a few shows together on our catch up days/nights. We started watching Off The Map together, and then watched the 2nd ep together on Saturday. We also watched Modern Family (which was left over from the weeks tv), Community, Parks and Recreation, we also watched the premire of Harry's Law - the new Kathy Bates, Brittany Snow, Nate Cordry (of Studio 60) show by David E Kelly, it was actually likable...which means we have 1 more show to watch.

Next week Grey's and Private Practice come back too, so that will be a crazy weekend.

Not sure how much I like Off The Map still....I'm enjoying it, but I definately don't LOVE it. But who knows how I'll feel after a couple more eps.  The Aussie/New Zealand guy is getting less annoying, so that is a good thing.

It was weird watching Parks and Recreation, having finished off season 3 of Everwood the night before. Chris Pratt was not little or blonde, which took a little adjusting to.
Still now sure about Rob Lowe on that show yet. I'm glad to have the show back though, I hope it stays good this season.

Finished with the Everwood dvds (till season 4 comes out), we've started watching Sports Night from the start. I've seen 11 eps of the first season, but nothing more. So its nice to finally be getting to the rest. It will complete my Aaron Sorkin tv show viewing.

Even with a whole day and a night to watch stuff, there is still plenty left so we'll be busy on our weekly catch ups I imagine. -We also watched that tv movie Temple Grandin with Claire Danes. She definately deserved the awards for that, it was really good and she was great in it!
